It's a great place for kids - multiple pools at the property, right on the beach, swingset on the beach, can walk to the boardwalk, various restaurants, etc.

We have gone every year for five years now, and I have found that you have to be EXTREMELY discerning about which unit you choose. IF you google you can sometimes find virtual tours. We have always had very nice units, but have had friends with gross ones. It's worth paying the extra money for something renovated.

We've gone to Sea Colony in late August for the past two years and I would say the beaches are busy but not super crowded.

Haven't booked this year yet because prices seem to have jumped substantially, like $500 or so.

It's cheaper than the houses and there aren't high rise hotels in Bethany.


We've never found the beach to be "insanely crowded" at Sea Colony, and we've been in both July and August. We stay in the condos on the beach, 2 br, 2 ba, and often pay around $2800 for the week. (I'm a little picky about the kitchens and bathrooms and renovated units usually are more expensive). We rent chairs and an umbrella by the week, and have the attendants set them up around 10am for us for the day.

We like to stay in the Chesapeake, Dover, and E (blanking on the name!) buildings because it's a shorter walk to town, closer to the sand castle contest, bonfire, and bingo.


I’ve never been but it looks awful in the google image searches results.
Are those inaccurate?

10:42 here -- we also pay for the linen service, so we don't bring regular towels or sheets. Most units have sufficient cooking and cleaning supplies in them, although I often bring a Keurig with me, depending on what the coffee pot looks like in the pictures!

I never found that going to Sea Colony was a great vacation. $3000 in a dumpy beach condo bringing my own sheets, towels, food, cooking and cleaning supplies. Crowded restaurants to going out was not relaxing.

for $3,000 in a week, we found we could do a real vacation where I did not have to cook, clean and shop.

This is OP. A friend stayed during the off season and thought it was great even in the dead of winter. Seems like it's conveniently located and lots to do. We haven't done the "summer beach trip" so we're looking forward to trying it out.

We went for a week the last week of August last year and had a 2 bdrm for $1800 for a week. This year it's about $2100 for the same unit/week - and closer to $3k mid summer. It was on the second floor and not a fancy unit, but it was a fun vacation. I think that's a decent deal.
