But why can't you use it as a teachable moment so she doesn't feel bad about it? "This is what schools expect, and it works out for most students. But with your ADHD, it's always going to be harder for you, and even when you try hard, that may just not be the thing you're best at. So we're trying to find some meds that help, and we're working with X to help you practice, and after that, what happens, happens. Some kids have trouble with the stuff you're getting 4s on, and their parents are probably talking to them right now about how to participate more constructively or be more helpful to their classmates. This is your thing. Everyone has a thing."[/quote]

DP.  My kid already knows that, hears that, can see that he is good at X (academics) and bad at Y (behavior).  He can see that plenty of other children in his class are good at Y and are working on X.

Maybe he should take some sort of positive or constructive message from that, but he hasn't, yet.  He's just learned that academics are easy and that he's a bad kid.  [/quote]
