I make only 60k a year and had 2 rounds of phone interviews, then an interview with the hiring manager and unit staff, then another interview with even more peers. Then finally a ppt presentation and grilling by senior leadership. Then they let me stew for 2 weeks, then asked me to provide 2 references for external partners I'd worked with. Then I finally got an offer. Whole process took 6 months.
That is crazy! Back in my day (I'm old) I have one or two interviews, at most, for a job. Times have changed! Since 2008, most mid-level jobs ($50-$200) have been cut back severely, so the competition for these jobs is INTENSE. They do all these interviews because they CAN. Job seekers tolerate this BS because they are desperate and have no choice. I had TWO full-day interviews with about six-eight people each day for a job paying $110K. I had to take two days off from work to do the interviews. After waiting for two weeks, I called HR and the woman said, "Oh, they've decided not to fill the job." WTF??? They didn't even have the courtesy to send me an email after two full days of interviews!! Unbelievable. It is crazy, but whaddyagonnado?
