I'm OP and am egalitarian when it comes to opening doors *in general.* However, when I'm out with a man I expect him to open my car door and open all doors of wherever we go (within reason). I'm 31.
So do you sit in the front seat after he's parked while he runs around to get your door? Awkward.
Seriously! I'm older than the PP and this is something I feel like someone's grandmother would do. Or a spoiled brat with a princess complex. Egalitarian...don't make me laugh.
I'm the PP who is the woman who is surprised at the lack of thank yous. I live in Dallas and the type of car door type behavior etc. is the default down here. If I get to the door of a restautant first because my husband is tagging behind with our child, I hold open the door, and some people will gawk! I think it's utterly ridiculous and kind of paternalistic to stand there and wait for my husband to open the door.. And again, so many women down here expect this kind of treatment, yet I'll bet you most of these are the same ones who can't bother to look up from their phones and say thank you when I hold the door, like it's a damn honor to hold the door for them.
