I had always wondered why so few Democrats even bothered to run in 2016.  Bernie identifies as a socialist and Jim Webb and Lincoln Chafee were both Republicans for a long time before they switched.  O'Malley was the only true blue Democrat to challenge Hillary but he was unelectable because of what happened in Baltimore plus really tone deaf when he said "all lives matter."  Most insider Democrats with ambition (including Joe Biden) probably were well aware that the Clintons had seized control of the party apparatus in 2015 and thus knew they did not have a chance against Hillary.

This is what happens when mostly good people put party over principle.  Hillary was able to rig the nomination process.  And countless Republicans voted for Donald Trump even though many of them surely had reservations about him.     [/quote]
