Obv it is okay to wear pants to an interview. However... minor anecdote: In 2004 when I was in law school and doing on campus interviews for summer associate jobs (which lead to big law hiring) I had exceptional grades and general interview well. I think I had 6 call back interviews at firms (where they already liked you during the 15 minute interview, so invite you to interview 8 attorneys in the office). The firms from which I got offers directly corresponded to the interviews where I wore a skirt suit. I got no offers from the firms where I wore a pantsuit to the interview. I mentioned this to the head of my practice group a few years later (a woman) and she was like "duh. Firms like their women attorneys to fit a type of feminine mold." She was saying this is a critical way, obviously. Not sure if this still holds true (13 years later) or if it holds true outside the legal world. But just my anecdote.
