Obv it is okay to wear pants to an interview. However... minor anecdote: In 2004 when I was in law school and doing on campus interviews for summer associate jobs (which lead to big law hiring) I had exceptional grades and general interview well. I think I had 6 call back interviews at firms (where they already liked you during the 15 minute interview, so invite you to interview 8 attorneys in the office). The firms from which I got offers directly corresponded to the interviews where I wore a skirt suit. I got no offers from the firms where I wore a pantsuit to the interview.

I mentioned this to the head of my practice group a few years later (a woman) and she was like "duh. Firms like their women attorneys to fit a type of feminine mold." She was saying this is a critical way, obviously. Not sure if this still holds true (13 years later) or if it holds true outside the legal world. But just my anecdote.

It's ok to wear pants. It's not ok to not wear pants.
