The walkability preference (which the Council doesn't seem to want to endorse) is really narrowly tailored to places where students are close to a charter campus and quite far from a DCPS. That just wouldn't apply in this second of Ward 5. There are DCPS schools close by. But the PP doesn't think they are 'good.' [/quote]

Most of the councilmembers don't have school age children - if they even have children - and they aren't attuned to the needs of families.

Most families want a solid, nearby school to send their kids to.

There are charters all over the city, and people from most parts of the city apply for charters.

Would be great to see the data on what wards the applicants end up going to and how many go in-ward vs. out of ward.
