I think you forgot Perry Street Prep. And LAMB only has a lease to be there through 2020. No guarantee they will be there beyond that.
I would prefer it be a great school that neighborhood children have an opportunity to attend - and not just a lottery chance.
Not the charters' fault if DCPS won't open up a building.![]()
DCPS doesn't have to be the only system directly serving communities.
This is why Bowser has this proposal for inbounds for charters. I see this dilemma here, though.
The walkability preference (which the Council doesn't seem to want to endorse) is really narrowly tailored to places where students are close to a charter campus and quite far from a DCPS. That just wouldn't apply in this second of Ward 5. There are DCPS schools close by. But the PP doesn't think they are 'good.'
Most of the councilmembers don't have school age children - if they even have children - and they aren't attuned to the needs of families.
Most families want a solid, nearby school to send their kids to.
Hard for the Ward 5 DCPS schools to perform at a high level with a multiplication of charters and most families aiming to enter the charter system.
Except Ward 5 doesn't really have a higher number of families seeking charters or lottery seats than other wards -- http://www.myschooldc.org/sites/default/files/dc/sites/myschooldc/2016_Lottery_Applications_byWardandGrade.pdf

Congrats on your luck in the lottery! Everybody isn't a winner to say the least..
