I had daily AM progesterone shots. For the first two weeks, I was using a smaller needle (25 gauge) to inject it intramuscular (butt). Around 2pm everyday, I felt like I had ripped my muscle and I couldn't walk. SO MUCH PAIN! I ran out of the smaller needles, so I started using a wider needle (22 gauge). What I noticed is that it allowed the needle site to bleed when the needle was removed, which resulted in no pain in the afternoon. It turns out that the smaller needle was causing the blood to stay in and that caused a bump, which caused me to feel extreme pain. Who would have known that the bigger needle would be better!! Also, if you have a lot of trouble with the needles, there are also progesterone vaginal suppositories. However, once you start those, you cannot go back to the needles.
How can the highlighted portion be true? I'm haven't done PIO yet, but I'm starting next week...but my protocol calls for PIO shots every other day and progesterone vaginal suppositories 3 times daily...all for the same 12ish weeks. So I would in essence be "going back to the needles" the entire time. Do you have a source for this information?
