It looks from your list that you are either at the very north end of the Hill or actually above H St NE and not actually on the Hill. Why not JO Wilson? Is that your zoned school? I think for K-2 people are happy, and increasingly so the last couple of years.
Thanks but only looking at schools we will stay at through 5th.
I assume she lives in Kingman Park and is zoned for Miner. I can't imagine many would put TR - Young over TR - 4th if they lived by JOW. If I were you, I'd put Maury and Brent on there just in case. A few OOBs do get in occasionally and parents there are worried about the renovation so it's possible it will be easier to get into than normal.
This is seriously bad advice. No one OOB has gotten into Maury for the past several years. Same with Brent. I am inbounds and was shut out for PK3. It's a total waste of a slot. TR Young is a far nicer campus, and a lot of the best TR teachers went there. TR 4th is not in the nicest area (by an abortion clinic and a garage with dismal outside space). And that's why people that don't know what they're talking about should not ramble online.
As the PP, I say this directly back to you. You are totally wrong. 1. Brent and Maury both ended up taking OOB Kers last year. 2. I couched my post in terms of her otherwise not having 12 schools, so there is LITERALLY NO downside to adding schools at which she has a 0% chance... which she doesn't, see point 1. If you're going to be completely wrong, try not to be nasty.
Agreed that OOB kids have a shot at Brent for K and that it's worth putting on a list if you don't otherwise have 12 picks. However I would note that the rising K group IB for Brent is much, much larger than the group of kids currently in K (the rising K cohort is the one where 30+ IB kids including numerous siblings were waitlisted for PL). So what happened last year is not necessarily instructive for this year's K lottery at Brent.
