As the PP, I say this directly back to you. You are totally wrong. 1. Brent and Maury both ended up taking OOB Kers last year. 2. I couched my post in terms of her otherwise not having 12 schools, so there is LITERALLY NO downside to adding schools at which she has a 0% chance... which she doesn't, see point 1. If you're going to be completely wrong, try not to be nasty.

Agreed that OOB kids have a shot at Brent for K and that it's worth putting on a list if you don't otherwise have 12 picks. However I would note that the rising K group IB for Brent is much, much larger than the group of kids currently in K (the rising K cohort is the one where 30+ IB kids including numerous siblings were waitlisted for PL). So what happened last year is not necessarily instructive for this year's K lottery at Brent.

Maury initially offered none for K, but went to #3 on its WL

Wow really? That's surprising about Brent. So much for people fulminating about being "shut out" of Brent at PK despite their $1.5 mil house. If you had to chose between Brent and Maury, which would you chose?

OOBers are shut out of Brent at PK (as are many IBers), but even OOBers have a small chance at K. With the caveat that I would first consider location in choosing (though both are on "the Hill," they are actually like a 25 minute walk apart, so if I were within a 5 minute walk of one, I'd definitely go for that one), I would otherwise choose Brent currently because of the renovation-related uncertainties.

You are an idiot. In addition to the other reasons pointed out, PP didn't say no one would pt TR Young over TR 4, she said she can't imaging MANY would IF they lived by JOW -- i.e., right next to TR4 and relatively far from TR Young. Go be an asshole elsewhere.

OP here - Do you mean Center City PCS, the one on East Capitol, which was a coversion to a charter from a Catholic school? Capital City is different. It is all the way up in Brightwood, not convenient to the Hill, and I believe it's still a sought-after school on DCUM.

I did consider Center City PCS because it would be so close to us, but it didn't seem to be a place that was really viable for us. Test scores are very poor, and I heard they use a pretty rigid disciplinary approach.

I wouldn't call it a fall from grace. They opened in 2000 -- and for a long time were the only parent founded charter around. Lots of growth since then, expansion to Pk3-12th and consolidation of all grades in a new location in Ward 4.
