Some dentists really push costly services on their patients. It's a conflict of interest in my opinion. Ten years ago after switching dentists I was told I needed to get 5 crowns. I got the two most critical ones done. I have had zero issues with the three other teeth.
I agree about some dentists being more pushy than others... a few years ago I went to a new dentist (after my old dentist of many years retired), was told I needed a huge amount of work done... I felt uneasy so decided to get a second opinion, first time in my life I've ever gotten a second opinion on dental issues. The second dentist (highly reputable with a very patient base) said I needed NO work done, I've now been back to her several times and am very happy.
