It is astounding to me that Maret is allowing this to go on. Parading out dozens of witnesses yesterday with the same argument focused on themselves and their reputation rather than the issue at hand did not help their cause. Some of the Maret parents are the brightest, most strategic political minds and they are fumbling this so badly. Why? It’s bizarre.
Give Hardy / BG&C the field two afternoons a week and not only does the issue go away, but they ride out on a white horse. For some reason, they prefer this. I don't get it either.
I learned from yesterday’s hearings that the big gift to Hardy of an hour or two late afternoon on Wednesdays started *a year ago*! Not until contract renewal was in sight did it occur to them that they could share the time they don’t actually use the field! Apparently the think ceding a bit of unused time on Wednesdays is generous enough.
What I learned from yesterday's hearing: Hardy spends $800 every time it must use busses to transport sports teams to practices and games around the city. And this $800 comes out of Hardy's budget. What I also learned yesterday from DPR's chief: the agency has not conducted a cost-benefit analysis of the deal with Maret. It doesn't even know what a fair market price for exclusive use of Jelleff in the prime after school hours. DPR needs to conduct a cost-benefit analysis that incorporates Hardy's spending on busses. This is a huge expense, tho I imagine some sort of donor to Bowser is making good money on all the Hardy kids who need to be shipped around the city.
