Hoda sat in for Savannah this morning. Around 730 when Hoda, Craig, Al and Carson are at the news desk. They all looked like they were on the verge of tears and trying to not cry on TV. I thought they had received bad news over the break and we’re going to break the news on the air. I speculated that they privately received an update from Savannah, which is why they were broken up.
Craig had to clear his throat several times I noticed that too.
Carson was pretty broken up as well and that’s when my antenna went up. It was just a split second and my interpretation of that moment. Obviously didn’t announce anything on the air only that they would be reporting on regular news and that’s what Savannah would want. I know they are close in real life, so it is not out of the realm of possibility that Savannah is updating them privately.
Is there a clip of this?
https://www.instagram.com/reel/DUicgqJE8TP/
This is about 30 minutes after Craig said Hoda would be with them this week and they had a completely different demeanor at 7:30 versus 7 AM – more somber. I hope we’re just reading into it but if you look at the two clips, there’s a definite mood change.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed it. You nailed the description of the moment; somber and mood change.
I saw the clip and interpreted their behavior to be somber and sad to show support for their colleague yet also to move forward with telling the news, as “this is what Savannah would want.”
