OP - unless your child is easily influenced by others, he/she will withstand the loud voices of more extreme liberal views of intolerance at top universities; there are always an array of political views although colleges have long been more liberal than the general population because youth is usually more liberal than older people -that's life. White privilege is old school. My college freshman comes home and jokes about classmates who insist every opinion others holds which they disagree is the product of their inherent bias caused by their privileged race, heterosexual orientation, CIS-gendered, western civilization, English-speaking bias. I think what OP objects to is not being exposed to awareness and understanding through diversity, but that our campuses -- full of bright energetic people - are too often shying away from serious debate in their on campus culture by making views other than the popular ones of the moment just unacceptable and labeling those who do not embrace the same view. This is intellectually dishonest, and our brightest students need to be able to insist on facts and theories tested by debate, without fear of social vilification. It is a real problem - not one of conservative or religious fringes as some here have implied. Even some college Presidents have started to talk about it publicly. I am hopeful that we are near a turning point when sound bite opinions will be revealed for what they are worth and will give way to thoughtful, principled debate leading to sound policies. The outcomes will be better for everyone.
