The VA Suoreme Court has struck down the Semocratic gerrymander. [twitter]https://x.com/billmelugin_/status/2052754337189748824?s=46&t=R0sFrGNc8GH_7llJGM-81g[/twitter]
It's a massive win for Lucas! /s
I admit I am surprised. Shame on them. Will this go to the US SCOTUS? How can we impeach state Supreme Court justices? How DARE they ignore the will of the people?
How dare the democrats attempt to unconstitutionally create new districts.
Read the opinion. They used a convoluted reading of legislative procedure to overturn it. GOP loves twisting the law to justify whatever result they want.
Nothing was convoluted. This was all known going in. It was known by the lawyers overseeing the process. It was a risk to go ahead. They understood that.
Yes, it was a risk that partisan hacks were going to overturn the will of the people. I think we know that already.
Obviously the Dems should have counted the number of republicans on the court before doing this, knowing full well that republicans will ignore the law and plain text to help their own party.
They only ruled on one aspect. That was what the hearing was about. If you listened to it, you should have known how they would rule. The Dem lawyer could not answer the questions satisfactorily, because the Dem house/senate did not follow the law. If they had supported this, then the next step would have been a challenge to the language in the referendum. That, too, did not follow the law. The Va Supremes upheld that law. I did read that one of the Justices that ruled to throw out the referendum was apponted by Mark Warner. Warner is a Democrat.
He was elected to the SC by the VA GOP in the GA.
