I admit I am surprised. Shame on them. Will this go to the US SCOTUS?
How can we impeach state Supreme Court justices? How DARE they ignore the will of the people?
How dare the democrats attempt to unconstitutionally create new districts.
Read the opinion. They used a convoluted reading of legislative procedure to overturn it.
GOP loves twisting the law to justify whatever result they want.
Nothing was convoluted. This was all known going in. It was known by the lawyers overseeing the process. It was a risk to go ahead. They understood that.
Yes, it was a risk that partisan hacks were going to overturn the will of the people. I think we know that already.
Obviously the Dems should have counted the number of republicans on the court before doing this, knowing full well that republicans will ignore the law and plain text to help their own party.
The Assembly can fix that

They only ruled on one aspect. That was what the hearing was about. If you listened to it, you should have known how they would rule. The Dem lawyer could not answer the questions satisfactorily, because the Dem house/senate did not follow the law.
If they had supported this, then the next step would have been a challenge to the language in the referendum. That, too, did not follow the law.
The Va Supremes upheld that law. I did read that one of the Justices that ruled to throw out the referendum was apponted by Mark Warner. Warner is a Democrat.
Yea they made their hackish opinions clear at the argument.
How could a US senator appoint a VA Supreme Court justice? Do you have any clue how VA Supreme Court justices get appointed?
DP. Are you serious? Warner used to be the VA governor….

Hey buddy, if you think the voters are going to just meekly suck up your ilk destroying the country and doing anything to hold on to power, you’re stupider than I thought.
You tried to cheat as usual and you crashed and burned....Buddy.

You fascist scumbags know all about cheating.
The GOP knows that they can’t win without lying and cheating.
Actually, that is what the democrats were trying to do in VA. Fortunately, the VA Supreme Court was having none of it.

Democrats took it to the people with a vote.
Republicans just forced it on their state.
Republicans don’t understand consent.
Looks like republicans follow the law in their states.
Anonymous wrote:For this, the Dems spent over $60 million and revealed themselves to the voters of VA.
I don’t think the voters who would have been disenfranchised by the new map are going to forget this attempted power grab by democrats.
I want to know what happens to all the northern Virginians who were running in the lobster district.
