Whether or not humans could have done something to substantially slow climate change is a moot point. There is no reversing the inevitable at this point. We'll either evolve quickly as a species or we'll go extinct. If we go extinct, the Earth will cleanse itself in a few thousand years and then life forms as intelligent or more intelligent than humans will likely exist again.
