Having a rolling admissions or EA safety in hand can take the sting out of EA/ED deferrals or rejections in December. My kid was accepted EA at his safety before Thanksgiving and having that in hand made it easier to deal with the two EA deferrals a few weeks later. College admissions has become a rough ride- do what you can to make it easier on your kid. Be excited about their safeties and don’t talk so much about their reaches.
We actually applied to “too many” safeties for this reason. DD is very high stats, but also an ORM girl from the DMV with ordinary ECs and an unspectacular narrative. So it feels insane not to at least shoot for some reaches, but realistically that’s likely to end in rejection. At least we can have the affirmation of some big merit awards to help balance things out.
