We actually applied to “too many” safeties for this reason. DD is very high stats, but also an ORM girl from the DMV with ordinary ECs and an unspectacular narrative. So it feels insane not to at least shoot for some reaches, but realistically that’s likely to end in rejection. At least we can have the affirmation of some big merit awards to help balance things out.

Ditto. I feel like early rolling safeties are a lot like a successful ED—you get to relax and enjoy senior year—but without the pressure to commit to a school you’re not sure about.

My kid already has two acceptances to safeties, one target and is completely relaxed now. Time to focus on doing well on those AP exams, and enjoy senior year.
