Superintendent Reid’s implication that the reason high school students couldn’t get released for the day was because the only opportunity teens in her district have to eat is through a free meal at school is preposterous. By doing so she is admitting that her leadership has failed at the entire purpose of education.
PP who paraphrased Reid’s now infamous comments that “lunch must go on” - considering that during a normal school day students just walk out/skip/leave without consequences (I’m a former FCPS sub/itinerant and FCPS parent) what’s to prevent a few or multiple students just walking out? I heard a WMAL clip where a father was instructing his DD to leave via a side door. Also am curious to know what exactly was going on post stabbing (circa 930) to let’s say noon. What announcements were made to the students? Did they change classes? If ALL 4 LUNCHES WERE SERVED does this mean that ALL INSTRUCTION CONTINUED? And, I’m sorry but those students were likely traumatized and terrified - was “learning” really continuing as the media staging area was being set up? Was the actual crime scene cleaned? Blocked from view? Did students en route to lunch have to walk through the hallway where the stabbing occurred?
