This is like if the fire department closed for the day because all the firefighters wanted to go to a Trump rally. It is so completely inappropriate.
It speaks to a deep sense of entitlement among LAMB staff.
Hardly. It speaks to their fear and concern for their students, coworkers, friends, family.
To shut down a school because of a political grievance that's completely unrelated to the school is an abuse of power, an abuse of tax dollars and it's also illegal in DC.
This is my understanding as well. LAMB employees are District employees: Code of the District of Columbia § 1–617.05. Strikes prohibited. It shall be unlawful for any District government employee or labor organization to participate in, authorize, or ratify a strike against the District.
LOL that does not apply to LAMB. Ya’ll need to simmer down.
Please explain why this doesn’t apply to LAMB.
Charter school teachers aren’t considered government employees.
Source please.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charter_school
A wiki page is not a source. Please cite the section of DC law that exempts LAMB teachers from the city's ban on public employees going on strike.
The entities in DC that are granted charters to operate a public charter school are 501c3 nonprofits not government agencies. The School Reform Act in DC Code states "Nonprofit status of school. — A public charter school shall be organized under Chapter 4 of Title 29 and its sole purpose shall be the operation of the public charter school." Chapter 4 of Title 29 is the Nonprofit Corporations Act. Also, elsewhere in the School Reform Act it notes that the term “District of Columbia Government” does not include public charter schools.
