It speaks to a deep sense of entitlement among LAMB staff.
Hardly. It speaks to their fear and concern for their students, coworkers, friends, family.
To shut down a school because of a political grievance that's completely unrelated to the school is an abuse of power, an abuse of tax dollars and it's also illegal in DC.
This is my understanding as well. LAMB employees are District employees:
Code of the District of Columbia
§ 1–617.05. Strikes prohibited.
It shall be unlawful for any District government employee or labor organization to participate in, authorize, or ratify a strike against the District.
LOL that does not apply to LAMB.
Ya’ll need to simmer down.
Please explain why this doesn’t apply to LAMB.
Charter school teachers aren’t considered government employees.
Source please.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charter_school
A wiki page is not a source. Please cite the section of DC law that exempts LAMB teachers from the city's ban on public employees going on strike.
why is it bad to go to school on February 3?Anonymous wrote:Just curious if any other schools are closing on Monday, aside from LAMB?
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Our country is literally crumbling. I think there should be a nationwide labor strike. But by all means, don't inconvenience DC parents.
Have you opened a newspaper? DO YOU NOT SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THE FEDERAL WORKFORCE????
This DUMB PERFORMATIVE STUNT HELPS NO ONE.
But it REALLY hurts immigrant families who are trying to feed their families and stay employed during a time where we are literally being targeted by the same administration. This is a TOTALLY UNNECESSARY and WORTHLESS stunt that only hurts families.
This dumb stunt helps no one.

Look I don't know if it's the right tactic or not but calling the rounding up of immigrants and sending them to Gitmo a political grievance that's unrelated to a Spanish speaking school is pretty gross. People are terrified. The dictatorship is refusing to recognize schools and churches as sanctuaries and is literally just rounding up people who speak Spanish (a Puerto Rican women was detained in a store in Wisconsin for the crime of speaking Spanish).
I realize a lot of us are rightly terrified and anxious and lashing out but if you think this is simply some normal politics than I have news about the next few years.
Children are being murdered in Ukraine and Gaza. Are we closing in support of them? Or are their lives not as important?
Well, the coup is happening in our country now. Your whataboutism is revealing.
If you went on vacation to Paris or London or Rome or literally *any* other place in the entire world, and you liked it so much that you decided to just stay there permanently and then one day, years later, the immigration authorities there discovered that you were living there illegally, what do you think would happen?
As an adult is this honestly how you think this works? People just come to the US for funsies and stay because vacation? US policies have ravaged Central and South America and made it to so these people are fleeing, like my own ancestors did from pogroms against Jews in Europe.
Some undocumented people have no idea of their status for years because their families fled when they were infants.
Others are actively applying for permanent residence.
Even if you did just want a better life than yeah that should be ok too.
This is an 18 year olds view of life.
You're missing the point, which is that if you violate the immigration laws of literally any country in the world, you should not be terribly surprised if they throw you out. You should try living in another country. The US has some of the most lax immigration laws on the planet.
Not everyone undocumented is violating the immigration laws. Plenty of people are trying to legally apply for asylum for which you have to be physically in the country.

In those cases, the ownership has committed to paying staff. That seems totally reasonable. I don't see anything remotely equivalent to an actual elementary school closing... anywhere in the country. Am I missing something?

Please enough with the smug claims to be more “empathetic” about grownups arbitrarily denying kids the schooling to which they are entitled.
