Let's say you're a 25-year-old litigation paralegal. Your skills can get you a job at basically any law firm or government agency. Of course you're going to take the deferred resignation. It's 8 months of pay for doing nothing, and at the end of it, it's doubtful that you'll have difficulty finding a new job. I think lots of the folks on here are very senior and/or in specialized roles where it makes no sense to take the deferred resignation. But try to put yourselves in the shoes of younger people in less specialized areas.
And what would that person do for health insurance? The 25 yo paralegal in your example cannot be on his parents's health insurance past his 26th birthday. Buying insurance from the marketplace is expensive.
My neighbor’s daughter has a paralegal certificate and has been applying for jobs for months and can’t even get an interview. What makes you think private employers are hiring? My firm is pulling down the shutters and waiting to see what happens. No one is going on a hiring spree in the face of uncertainty and chaos.
