William and Mary
Please explain how this is a safety. Stats? My DC has great stats and we are on pins and needles waiting in ED. I ready g why yiur DC views this as a “safety” might help me relax a little.
W&M is NOT a safety for anyone. Acceptance rate is 33.5%. That makes it at most a target for a top student Someone high stats, has a better chance but it is still not a Safety for them.
For some private high schools, there have never been rejections above certain GPAs and SAT scores to UVA, W&M, UMD, and other competitive (non-California) public schools if you look at historical scattergrams.
THIS. At our DC private, W&M has NEVER rejected a kid over a certain GPA and UVA is similar (with a different GPA). There are pretty much lines in the sand. You can look at the data and it doesn't lie. Sure, your kid could be the first kid in 10 years to not get in with XX GPA (which is why you have more than one safety) but it's a pretty sure thing.
Same here. W&M has never rejected anyone above a certain GPA, thus the college counselors suggest it as a safety for high stats kids. School had a bad year with UVA admissions a few years back, so that one is never a safety, but generally both W&M and VT (except engineering) are suggested as safeties for high stats kids.
VT is a safety for anyone with mid stats at mine. Engineering and CS I suspect has higher bar but VT's line is closer to JMU's. Also, VT seems to not GAF about SAT.
Huh. Absolutely none of the above holds true for our high school.
