Imagine you're a middle class Ann Arbor homeowner and these apparatus foot soldiers get 30k kids from New York, New Jersey, California (...maybe some Chinese kids for good measure) to vote to raise your taxes and cancel out your votes for mayor, city council, state lawmakers. That is literally what is happening. And then 100% of those kids go back to the coasts and China after college.
If you live in a university town, you benefit immensely from the university and the students who are paying tuition. You have sports, entertainment, culture, etc. you would not otherwise have. You have a lot of educated citizens who contribute to the community. You have great public schools, health care, and services. Part of your property value is because of the proximity of the university. All the students count in the Census for your state’s Congressional apportionment and formula funding of dozens of grants. They pay sales taxes, excise taxes, etc. that fund local governments. They live there and are subject to state and local laws for several years. Students should have the same right to vote as an other resident.
