I must not understand what a capri is, because everywhere I look I see women of all ages wearing them. Here are some pictures of things I would call capris, and they all look good to me (for casual wear). Are these what the OP is talking about?? http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=46804&vid=1&pid=265789 http://www.titlenine.com/product/womens-bottoms/capris/532001.do?sortby=ourPicks#.UDuwhaMlrTo http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/product/clothes-new-pants/25619545.jsp http://www.sundancecatalog.com/product/womens+clothing/womens+pants/womens+cropped+pants/joe%27s+jeans+white+kickers.do?sortby=ourPicks I mean, if it's a hot day at the park, taking a long walk, running after a toddler, what the heck else can you wear if you're over 40? I'm sure as heck not going to wear shorts - impractical on many levels, and also very unflattering on me. Skirts also impractical.
NP here. They look passable on models. But even those models would all look better in full-length pants. I think OP went overboard suggesting shorts are better than capris because, for many women (especially middle-aged and older) they are not. That said, why not just wear full length pants and jeans. How is that inconvenient? Are you walking through water or something?
Can you say "105 degrees and humid??" You want to run around in the sun after a toddler in full length pants in VA in the summer? I'm not wearing them to work or anything. Just for walking, playing, casual shopping.
I don't see how capris provide that much heat relief compared to full length pants. It's much more about material the pants vs. capris are made of.
OK, now I get it. The anti-capri movement is clearly led by people without small children, who do not actually need their clothes to perform in heat, dirt and humidity. Obviously you all are simply walking from one air-conditioned place to another most of the time. Stop by a playground sometime and see how many moms are there in long pants on a really hot day (number = 0). But lots of capris. And yes, there is water and dirt involved - if you wanted to look silly in long pants and be really uncomfortable, you could get a pair of light pants and then have them black on the bottom by the end of the day.
