Canada just passed a law barring foreigners from owning houses. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/29/realestate/canada-bans-foreign-buyers.html Housing prices are so expensive which makes it difficult to enter the housing market. A substantial number of houses are bought with cash only. Many of those sales are from foreign buyers. Would housing be slightly more affordable if foreign buyers are barred from buying houses?
Wow, look at that xenophobia and open racism.
More than a million legal immigrants enter the USA per year. If you don't think that adds to housing demand, let alone energy consumption, and fossil fuel emissions, I don't know what to tell you.
Wait, so they are legally here, meaning our country said "come on in!", and yet you want to punish them because....? -NP
It's off topic, but our immigration policy should be decided upon how beneficial it is to our citizenry. Our immigration policy is largely decided on what is good for businesses (cheap labor for both skilled and unskilled positions). If you care about climate change, then you would realize that adding millions of people to western consumption levels with respect to energy is not a smart proposition. Nor is tearing down green spaces for new housing tracts environmentally responsible.
