People like this don't talk to me. Work on your look. If you look like a mark, they will approach. I get approached for directions (not as much anymore with GPS nowadays), but never by these types of people. It literally is the way you walk and the look on your face. Not victim blaming--just saying you can train yourself to not even get approached.
NP, and can confirm. I come from a rough working class area in the NE that’s world-renowned for the grit and attitude of its people. I lost the accent, and I dress pretty plainly, but whatever I’m thinking in my head of “rolling any B- that tries to mess with me” clearly scares them off. The one exception in all the time I lived here was when I was feeling off my game after my family had COVID and my dog died in the same week. Whatever vulnerability I was feeling it was like a magnet for the nuts. One lady had the gall to call me out in the grocery store for not offering to let her go ahead of me when I let the person behind me check out their milk while I finished loading my cart. She came at me fuming hoping to teach me a “lesson”, and let scared with her tail tucked between her legs when the ugly, middle age lady she expected to be meek and a people pleaser told her to shove it and mind herself.
