A legally binding prenup requires the wife to be represented by counsel, who will tell her not to sign anything stupid like giving up all alimony. I’m a big fan of pre-nups (think almost everyone should have them) but you don’t seem to understand the basics of a pre-nup.
I have one and am very familiar. I know all about both parties needing to disclose assets and have counsel for it to be legally enforceable.
So then you know competent counsel doesn’t let their clients waive alimony unless there are offsets. There’s no prenup of “completely impoverish her as soon as you’re done screwing her” that a court won’t throw out.
Attorney’s will advise. In Maryland an alimony waiver will be enforced unless the spouse is likely to be a public charge. Please look up the case law on Google Scholar.
What’s the point of marring a rich guy with a prenup you describe ? She will be better off on herself . A smart young woman won’t sign it and will move on ; the guy will be left with his pick of not very smart baristas
Why all the sneering at baristas?
I think that barista is code for “woman who is attractive, but not well educated or ambitious.” I think she is a barista because she is based on Rachel from the first season of Friends.
Ok, why the sneering at women who are not well educated?
I don’t really see a lot of sneering. Education isn’t important to everyone, and that’s fine. But you can’t marry someone who thinks that education and school aren’t important and then expect them to teach your kids to study hard and agree to spend tens of thousands on their college education.
Wow, that’s not pompous at all. Folks, your kids will learn to study hard only if their mom has multiple degrees. Because other women must think that education isn’t important.
