We can’t “live with” a virus that you can be reinfected by within weeks. The long term health costs of this are going to be astronomical. This is a mass disabling event, and doctors and epidemiologists are screaming it.
You still have not articulated an alternative
This ain’t it. We need indoor mask mandates until our HVAC systems and buildings are brought up to speed. That can happen; it just requires everyone turning away from hygiene theater and the pretense that vaccines alone have solved the problem.
Either you’re being sarcastic or you don’t understand HVAC systems and building construction.
Oh, no--I understand them well. It's going to take tons of money and investment, changes to building codes--it will be years. In the meanwhile all public spaces should be required to monitor and make available in real time their CO2 levels as a proxy for rebreathed air fraction, so people at least have a fighting chance of making the "individual risk calculations" we're all encouraged to make. That's not crazy expensive and it's done in other countries; they just don't want to do it here because of what it's going to reveal about how bad the air is. And in the meanwhile we need mask mandates in indoor spaces, for high-quality masks on which fit information is widely distributed. Do mask mandates "work"? Yes, it's completely clear that when mandates are in place, many many more people wear masks. If we upgraded those masks and made any effort at all at teaching people how to use them correctly, we'd be a lot closer to being able to "live with COVID".
-1. Your evidence mask mandates "work" and should exist is more people obey them if they are in place? That is circular logic. One should establish if they work, then one should establish benefits vs. costs, and then put these mandates up for vote by lawmakers and not just imposed by public health officials and/or governors. The vast majority of people are not signing up to be forever maskers just because there is a virus with a low mortality in vaccinated people circulating. If some people feel it's necessary to mask they can have at it.
Well said.
