Where’s the science on this? Every study shows Covid causes virtually no harm in young children and transmission rates are very low whilst wearing masks could have long term psychological consequences.
I don’t get any of the comments. Everyone’s required to wear masks indoors. That isn’t bvr’s rule; that’s the mandate. Kn95s and similar are more comfortable than regular masks, and they’re more effective. Most of these comments are anti-mask and pro-letting kids get COVID on the assumption that no kid will be the unlucky one who needs a hospital bed but can’t get one because the hospitals are full of unvaccinated idiots who won’t do their basic duty as citizens. That’s not a totally indefensible position, but…that is literally not a choice that is on the table. Ten pages arguing on a private school forum about an issue that is really about a mask mandate….smh.
OP here. I was fine with my kids wearing cloth masks (not thrilled, but accepting of the rules). My kids have never worn a KN95 mask, but I have and I can’t breath with it. I can’t imagine my kids being able to run, play, etc while wearing one of those. On top of that, my kids (and all of their classmates) are fully vaccinated since a few weeks ago. My children and I will accept the rule of course, but I am really mad about it and I am starting to see that “the other side” has several valid points. I also have a 2 year old that has to wear a mask. I think this is ridiculous too because he chews on it and it’s always drenched when I pick him up…. But that’s another story. I wish there was a middle ground where kids had to get tested (maybe even twice a week) and do not need to wear these awful masks that I personally can’t stand for more than a few minutes and did not have to breath all of their carbon dioxide.
So I don’t agree with all of this, as I don’t think these masks pose any danger. I’m gonna try one out when I return to my teaching job on Monday, but if I can’t stand it, I won’t wear it. I am vaccinated. I am boosted. I stayed home for months on end. To act like a milder wave of illness that I have some protection from merits even more intense precautions than were taken in March 2020 is too much. I am a liberal. I hated Trump. But I can see some of the points of the other side as well. When I said virtue signaling earlier, I think I was onto something. It’s become a sign of political allegiance to take the most extreme Covid precautions. You can call that selfish, but I’m at peace with everything I’ve done. I wear my cloth mask happily. But I’m allowed to be concerned about my one year-old at daycare who is surrounded by masked people. I’m allowed to question whether young children really should be masking at this point, especially given the advice of the WHO.
