I’ll ask why some are so hell-bent on saying that it doesn’t work and why governors are stepping in and not allowing doctors to prescribe it to their patients. Why would a politician interfere between a sick individual and their doctor?
Restricting it to in-patient care isn’t banning it...
But it is banning to from what is thought to be its best use at the initiation of symptoms.
Exactly. That’s the real tragedy here. You have to be allowed to become so sick that you’re admitted before it can be administered. Had it been available at the outset of symptoms, before viral load and immune response complications had reached critical levels, most patients would have a far less difficult time. However, one unfortunate reality is that there IS a limited supply, at least as of 10 days ago, within the US at least, since the two approved uses (malaria and lupus) are both relatively uncommon here. Thec supply was small to begin with, and this strained it even further. But physicians should make the determination of when a patient should receive it, not elected officials. It’s a relatively easy compound to create in a modern pharmaceutical lab/factory, but it still takes a while to get the precursor components on hand, QA testing in place, and start producing medication. There’s going to be a lag until a manufacturer catches up. It’s a generic medication, and I’m sure dozens of labs are in various stages of beginning production right now.
