Most of the major cruise operators register their companies in countries such as Panama and Liberia, thereby avoiding most US taxes and labor laws. Thus, the cruise industry’s trade group said on Thursday the companies will not have access to the US aid for large employers, according to the Washington Post.”

More here - there are at least ten ships with around 10,000 passengers stranded at sea right now. It’s totally wrong for the ports of origin to refuse to take these ships back IMO.

The companies can't have it both ways. If you don't want to pay into US coffers (taxes=social responsibility) then you can't expect the US to use our tax dollars to bail you out. Chickens coming home to roost.[/quote]

Totally agree.  No bailouts for cruise companies!

I can't believe they are still operating cruises anyway.  I guess they are not subject to all these lockdown laws happening all over the place?  Still it is incredibly irresponsible to keep operating cruises.  You can't even argue that they are a necessity for some travelers -- like airlines who might still be carrying passenger who have urgently legitimate needs to get where they are going.  Cruises are purely leisure.  Stop the cruises!  Even Disney World has closed.  [/quote]
