Probably her mom’s maiden name (like Jimmy Fallon). I went to HS with a girl named Birch. Her parents were not hippies. Super conservative Southerners who uses Mom’s Maiden Name.[/quote]

Yes, this is a real thing. The lineage of many of these families is proudly Anglo Saxon, at least that’s what they are celebrating - the “mother’s maiden” name thing doesn’t work if you are of polish descent, or really anything other than English, welsh, Scottish or Irish. There are tons of baby “Taylors” but no baby “Kowalskis” or “Schmidt.”[/quote]
