West African women often give names that reflect the pregnancies.

Stuff like this is so annoying. You literally just made this up. “West Africa” is an entire section of an entire continent. Many of the customs differ drastically between countries. Yet, I’ve STILL never heard of this.

-Married to a “West African.”

Come on! It’s a cool name that I have never once heard on anyone outside the President.

I’ve had two students named Barack. Both too old to be named after Obama. Also one was born in Israel.

Barack is a biblical name. Many, many people had the name before him and will have it after him.

I knew a family with 6 kids, and they had a Seven-but he was the 3rd kid. I never really understood that one.

Even weirder since Seven was supposed to be a girl's name -- which I really do like! But too associated with Seinfeld.

And I came here to share Fallon (girl). I’m like felon? Talon? Fallopian tube? This is not a first name and anything it’s misheard as shouldn’t be a name either.

Probably her mom’s maiden name (like Jimmy Fallon). I went to HS with a girl named Birch. Her parents were not hippies. Super conservative Southerners who uses Mom’s Maiden Name.

This is an actual thing that often leads to unfortunate results. I have an acquaintance from Georgia with cousins named Coates (woman) and Wages (Man).

Yes, this is a real thing. The lineage of many of these families is proudly Anglo Saxon, at least that’s what they are celebrating - the “mother’s maiden” name thing doesn’t work if you are of polish descent, or really anything other than English, welsh, Scottish or Irish. There are tons of baby “Taylors” but no baby “Kowalskis” or “Schmidt.”
