I think saying its a little ivory tower is agreeing that it is a bit tone deaf. But I would not at all say that a person making an overture towards trying to say something nice to sex workers is classless.
She disagrees - https://www.instyle.com/news/meghan-markle-banana-messages-offensive-sex-worker
"People out here struggle to eat and sleep and she gifts us some words on a piece of fruit," said a woman who goes by the name Nikki to the British newspaper The Sun. “She has the means to help us more than that. It’s offensive, you know.”
I agree. I understand that the banana is probably a better fruit upon which to write, considering its peel. However, I doubt a sex worker wants to see - "You are strong." - on something that resembles a penis. so yeah, classless
So one person disagrees? You can find one person to disagree with anything. Many people in fact. I said I thought it was a little ivory tower and I still do, but that is a far cry from an example of a classless person who deserves to be raked over the coals of the british press day after day after day. Even PH and QEII have noticed this. Harry wrote a scathing letter to the press about their treatment of her that was absolutely blessed by the Queen.
You can be a supporter. Great I don't respect her. She's not the brightest. And yes, "inspirational" messages on a banana to sex workers is tacky.
She doesn’t need your respect bc it means absolutely nothing. However, maybe you should get out there and help sex workers. Where is your charity? Where will you be this Saturday helping them? How do you continue to help them?
No I don't work with sex workers. But if I did, a banana doesn't cut it. I do, however, work with kids - and CPS for all of us is on speed dial. So I know a "tad" bit about abuse . . . How do you help victims of abuse? By posting inspirational sayings on FB?
I’m going to say, having been a “street kid”, and having had to use sex for payment, even though I wasn’t a “sex worker”.. those messageswould have gotten me through many days a little more easily. Yes, I would have loved money and more resources in my pocket, but there were many days I needed to not feel so alone, judged, and feeling like I was worthless. I used to feel like the world was a grey place, inaccessible to me. I would have said I was fine, believing the whole time I had to do it on my own. I’m still that way, to this day. There were many days I literally forgot I was a person, and would have likely rejected “real” help, because I didn’t think I was deserving of it. So yeah, a message on a banana, no matter how trite it might seem to someone who has never lived that way, can make an impact. I would have read it, on my own, and realized someone meant it for me. It may have given me a little hope on those really dark days. You have no idea if it will help, or if it won’t, but it costs nothing more than a few seconds of time.
