Quite the contrary. Trump won today, bigly, and not only Schumer knows it, everyone in Washing ton know it. I can't wait for the victory tweeting to start.
Moderate posting. If a deal gets struck based on McConnell's "promise," then it's not Trump that won. It's Dems that (probably foolishly) put down their weapons to allow the government to function. As usual, Dems are more interested in progress than in short-term victory. That's why they constantly get rolled, because they simply aren't as ruthless and willing to burn it all down as Republicans are. I respect them for that country-over-party attitude, but they constantly lose because of it. Personally, I think that if this McConnell promise deal gets struck, Dems should blanket the country from now until Feb 8 with clips of McConnell's promise, and make absolutely clear that unless he puts a clean DACA bill on the floor before Feb 8, then there's no way they'll allow for a further CR. Make it painfully obvious the whole thing rests on McConnell's honor. Trump will love that because he succeeds in making McConnell look like the asshole, when in reality it's McConnell who's likely sacrificing his honor to help Trump. My prediction: McConnell will keep his promise and allow a DACA bill to come to the floor. The DACA bill will pass. Trump will then sit on the bill and veto it at the last possible moment, saying it's not good enough. At that point, it will be too late to pass anything else before all the DACA children have lost their protection. Bonus prediction: If Trump really senses a lot of political pressure, he'll issue some revised Executive Order which suspend deportation of the DACA children. They'll still be 100% vulnerable, but Trump will claim he "saved" them.
