Quite the contrary. Trump won today, bigly, and not only Schumer knows it, everyone in Washing ton know it. I can't wait for the victory tweeting to start.

Tomorrow, the government is officially shut down. Follow your guidance, which is probably to come in to wrap up or to work if your agency has funding. Then we'll see what happens at noon.

The votes have already been counted. If it doesn't pass this will be all on the Dems since McConnell now has all the republicans on board. There are too many vulnerable red state democrat senators. Still id like to see schumer stand up for his principles and show his face at least against the cr. But if he doesn't, why should any.vulnerable dem carry his water?
Do you feel that there should be an understanding in writing regarding brining DACA to the floor as McConnell has now promised? He’s made similar promises before and hasn’t kept to his word. Should democrats insist on some written assurance before they agree?
McConnell did. better than a written promise. He went on t.v. and gave everyone a nice sound bite to use against him if he reneges.
However he was very specific in his language. He didn't promise to bring a daca bill that democrats would like to a vote. So that's his promise, and &is warning to democrats: you have until Feb. 8 to make a deal McConnell likes, but if you don't, you'll be getting a vote on legislation you might not like very.much at all.
Hmm, so you're saying McConnell could adequately fulfill his end of the "deal" by bringing absolutely any version of DACA reform he wants to the floor? For example, he could bring a bill that says all DACA children will be immediately rounded up and deported, and that fulfills his promise, in your mind. Is that what you're saying?
If so, then don't you think Democrats are justified in telling him to shove this false deal up his ass?
No, McConnell promised to have a level playing field in terms of marking up and amending the bill. He just made no promise on the ultimate outcome. He made a promise as to process, not as to substance of the bill. However since schumer has already promised trump his wall, a Bi partisan deal is very doable. Schumer is having his ass handed to him today so they will all make the best deal there is to be made. Dems will make the best of it and declare victory but they won't pull any stunts like this again.
Schumer now knows how bad Trump and McConnell are at negotiating. He doesn't have to budge at all now.
