I wonder if OP is the same poster who disses Greatschool rating of Whitman, said that teachers urged the students to sabotage the testing and that no way schools that scored higher are actually better academically than Whitman, bcs they are " schools where you see how bad they are just by passing by?" Now, this pp, maybe the same one is excusing racist behavior and effort from the school to address the issue. Just keep telling your kid how school and principal and making this into a bigger issue than it is, and then act surprised when your kid is as racist as you are. Oh, wait, you wouldn't be surprised, you would be proud!
OP here. Haven't read that post. Now please explain, why are you calling my children and myself a racist??
Because....you are?? Nothing is wrong with the e-mail, nothing is wrong with the school trying to install values and acceptance to their students. What exactly makes you opposed to making a "big issue," out of this? It is a big issue. No matter the ethnic background of kids using this word, it is meant as a racial slur and even when black NBA players admit to using it among themselves as a joke, it is wrong. What is wrong with you? Why do you not think this is a big deal? What do you think it makes you when you tell your kids that school is making too big of a deal of somebody using racial slurs and insults?
Where did I say it was not a big deal to use the word? I said the response was overkill. Did I not criticize those who used the words? Look at the vibrant discussion here... many opinions on this but you single me out as a racist with no evidence but merely because my opinion differs from yours. That fact says more about you than me. How about instead of casting aspersions we focus on whether the response exceeds the deed. I think it does, you think it doesn't. OK then... I ask what will the principal do the next time the word is used? He has already sent two mass emails out, he has already counseled every student. What's next... suspension? Over a word?? What happens if it was a minority who says it... do you suspend the non minorities for saying but not the minorities student? Do you suspend the minority when they don't even think the word is a pejorative?? All these issues now arise because this has been amplified by the Principal. He should have kept his response between the culprits and their parents. I fear going public as it were will only compound matters going forward. I could be wrong, time will tell. If there are no further issues regarding this issue, I'll come back and apologize.
