Ironically you get more if you work for money and then are disabled, but the most severely disabled people cannot work do they get the least (which you cannot possibly live on)
You don't get much more if you have worked for some time before becoming disabled! The average benefit from SSDI is $1171 per month. Yes it is more than $700/month but still not a lot to live on.
Once we, our son's parents, are not here anymore our son will get a new guardian. Those, I am finding out, are often lawyers. I found that out when we hired one recently. The lawyers are paid out of the persons disability funds. Lawyers collect 'wards' like playing cards to supplement their income. The lawyer we were acquainted with complained numerous times about how now she could only bill for 6% of the SSI yearly total for her services due to a new law. She complained that it's 'hardly worth it now'.Thank god for new laws otherwise I'm sure people like her would take 75%. And what does she do for that money? Pretty much she fills out some end of year forms to turn in to show how the helpless wards money was spent. She spends no time with them, doesn't look into how their lives are really going and doesn't bring them anything. Guardians are picked by the court - you can't pick one for your child. So - rich people will be cherry picking our sons small disability payment when we are gone, that's a big comfort. I often see disabled adults out at a community event with an aid -the tickets are often donated - but when the person asks her aid for something like a popcorn they are told no. So - I wonder who is picking off the rest of their funds? Please do like I do and get out your money and buy those disabled adults a treat when you see them next.
