For all those piling on Gerry, ... just wondering how your ex-husband/boyfriend/girlfriend would describe his/her relationship with you and how the break up went down. Most likely, your EX wouldn't see the past the same way you did. The article makes it sound very cruel that the meals were paid "dutch" -- i.e. each one pays for their own. (ooo... that Gerry sure is a moocher!). It makes it sound cruel that both parties were going to pay a share of the housing costs. (he's so selfish!) She had to pack all of her stuff BY HERSELF and fell down the steps! Well... did you help your ex- pack up his/her stuff when you broke up? Of course not. When you separate the details from the smear, there's not a lot here. Basically, this woman may have been a former girlfriend. It didn't work out. They broke up. She even says that he helped her get to her car and said that he wished it hasn't turned out that way. That's not exactly what a callous bastard says when he is kicking someone to the curb, is it? I wonder if this media publication is putting this hit piece out the day before the finale, as a desperate attempt to boost their clicks and advertising revenue.
It’s not going Dutch that’s the issue, it’s him needing to pretend that he was paying. It’s also not that he dated or lived with anyone but that he claimed not to. As for my exes, I know that one would say I broke up with him coldly. It was my first relationship at 19 and I actually still feel bad about it thirty years later. The rest were all mutual or they decided they weren’t into me anymore. I’m still in touch with most of them.
Agree with this / the producers must have known and were manipulating audience into being more sympathetic by pretending he had not dated since his wife passed - but Gear-ie went along with the misrepresentation, which undermines his aw shucks persona. A live in lover of nearly two years should have been revealed and it is disrespectful to her also. He also misrepresented that he retired at 55, which is an odd public image to cultivate. Not many people retire that young. Who cares if he goes Dutch but why pretend otherwise? I agree with PP that the actual conduct is not a big deal but the misrepresentations are. On the other hand, Everyone has skeletons in their closet and these are not that bad I guess. I am not a fan of telling multiple women that he loves them but on a show like this, it is probably unavoidable. PP’s description of Theresa is tad mean but hilariously accurate - “haunted ventriloquist dummy.” I did not enjoy her personality due to insensitivity to others’ feelings when often boasting about her connection but hope that she and Gear-ee are happy together.
