Maybe it really was going to be a kidnapping and something went wrong after the note was written, but the kiler threatened to kill the rest of the family if they didn't stay quiet?

This does make sense, but the problem is this would imply that this was an accident staged as a murder, and what the evidence shows is that this was a murder staged as a sex assault/kidnapping.

There is no evidence anything accidental happened. No fall, no tumble down the stairs. The blow to her head is what killed her. The chances of her having a soft blow to the head that was an accident in the exact same place as the brutal blunt force object doesn't make sense. So the accident theory has a hard time holding up.[/quote]
