Last night I saw an episode-she lives in Minneapolis and commutes by air to Detroit.  Nicole Curtis looked at what was a great house in Detroit.  It was unoccupied for over 20 years.  The family moved away for employment and had always hoped to come back.   The most she could sell it for was maybe $150,000 and it would cost $150 to fix.

We had looked at some major fixer uppers in DC so some of the construction stuff is interesting but how many times can I watch her do the same thing in a different house in Detroit?  Many vandalized.  Holmes on Homes is now on the DIY network-but again all that is nitty gritty construction.
Property brothers are interesting because they look at fixer uppers then fix.  Same with the love it or list it people.

A show like the latter would be great in DC.  We have the old houses like Toronto-same issues.   Price points are off for the work since each show supplies some free stuff.   I've seen people emerge with huge amounts of new furniture and the most top end appliances on the market yet needed surprise repairs preclude the anticipated second bath on a bedroom level.  Or they do gigantic single baths with walk in showers to fit 5 people.

Enough square footage for 2 smaller baths.  Who would not prefer 2 toilets with a family of 4?  Ridiculous.[/quote]
