But, you could say the opposite is just as true. I have no problem telling a guest in my house to make them comfortable while I do something. I tell that to my mom all the time, who's needier than MIL. Why couldn't OP's DIL said, "oh hey, I'm going to change and we'll chat after the show." OP seems to have some self-awarness because she's asking if she should apologize. With a three hour drive, you could be late, which would also get them in a load of trouble![/quote]

Nobody starts a 3-hour drive 5 hours before agreed-upon time. Also, the event they were arriving for was the next day! OP has no self-awareness at all, because she wonders why the DIL was "weird" seeing her 2 hours early in her driveway. Can you actually imagine arriving early and then deciding to sit in someone's driveway? Then she thought that the DIL should have texted HER when she saw them sitting there! [/quote]
