I suspect that they will reflect DC in terms of cultural background, but as all of the DCUM bullies have continually pointed out when throwing mud at some of the higher performing charters, their is likely self-selection in terms of not sending SN kids to immersion, and lower SES not choosing to send their kids to school in upper Northwest and/or immersion settings. I can tell you that more than few Appleseed parents are applying to Sela (along with other charters) - and the ones that I know are middle class/professional AAs. [/quote]
Sela won't be in "upper northwest"--it'll be in a mddle-class, predominently AA neighborhood in NE, albeit west of the river. [/quote]

It's in Takoma, DC - like a block from NW and on the border with Takoma Park, MD....and about 5 minutes from SS. So, depending on where you sit....that's pretty much upper NW. However, it's very close to Brookland, Fort Totten, etc., so it's pretty accessible for being so close to Maryland. I think it's pretty cool that they got a long-term home off the bat. It bears noting, however, that upper NW itself is fully of high SES African Americans along the "Gold Coast" of 16th, for example.[/quote]
