When private sector people get let go, downsized or fired, there is no sympathy, and it is just another day. When federal employees, who get paid back, or for a load there is a lot of woah is me and hand wringing. They will be OK. It’s more of a well now it’s your turn to feel what we’ve all felt before.
Who has no sympathy for laid of private sector workers? I recall expanded UI benefits and stimulus for people who lost their jobs during COVID. I’ve seen tons of criticism online re: recent tech layoffs. There is tons of vitriol toward CEOs laying people off while collecting obscene salaries and bonuses. And at the very least I’ve never heard of anyone celebrating people in the private sector losing their jobs. Meanwhile there has been plenty of frothing at the mouth over feds getting fired. It’s weird and is causing me to lose a lot of my empathy for others being treated this way.
