100%. Child support is difficult to collect from Australia, and there would likely be little to no consequences for this young man. Australia was a prison colony and has a lot of bad apples to this day. He very well may have a lady friend there too, and it’s really too far to travel over a winter break, but I agree there’s need to mention all that.[/quote]

They may have been founded by criminals (many for petty offenses), but we were founded by a few dozen men many of whom owned hundreds of other human being and routinely ordered them whipped and separated from their loved ones and ordered to work and live in terror. You sure you want to lean on that argument?

I see you have good intentions but you should know Australian wasn’t “founded” by criminals. It was founded by the second, third, and fourth sons of the aristocracy who weren’t going to get any land at home in England.

Those living in the penal colonies were mostly guilty of “heinous” crimes like stealing bread, clothes, and matches. Any one guilty of serious crimes at the time were simply hanged.

Australia was a place to send the unwanted poor population, many of whom were Irish. Turned out to be a decent deal for them as it was easier to survive there than in England. Better weather, need for labor, and a chance to start a new life.[/quote]
