January 6th is everything to me
I was traumatized by that and can't fathom how the Republicans rationalize it.
Just had a day long argument with my mother, who'd rationalizing why it's OK my spouse just got fired from the feds, and she seems to think J6 was only about 4-6 hours long, so it's implausible that 1,500 or more would be arrested and convicted. That there must be shenanigans in the prosecution somehow. I asked her if she had read the Jan 6 committee report. https://www.amazon.com/January-6-Report-6th-Committee/dp/0063315505. Nope. Or Jack Smith's report. https://electionlawblog.org/wp-content/uploads/report-of-special-counsel-smith-volume-1-january-2025.pdf Nope. Or Michael Fanone's book. Nope. Harry Dunn's? Nope. Aquilino Gonell's? Nope. The Breach by a Republican congressman? Perhaps more believable to her. Nope. https://www.amazon.com/Breach-Untold-Story-Investigation-January/dp/1250866766 Has she viewed body worn camera footage? Nope. Everyone needs to go to primary sources. The days are over where media was a reliable secondary source of information.
I would sit her down on the couch and pull it up on the TV.
Your poor mother. You should leave her alone. dcurbanmoms can’t help ourselves. We take the MOST hyperpartisan spin we could possibly create (“this was an armed insurrection!”) and then we pretend to ourselves that it wasn’t written by political hacks but rather by the Encyclopedia Brittannica. Or God. You are almost certainly too politically biased to be objective about Jan6. As such, you are wuite possibly mistaken about much of it, and you are making a big mistake lecturing your mom about it. My buddy from San Francisco spent a lot of time lecturing his elderly father about race, trans issues, etc. he regrets it now. I’ve gone down this oath many times. It’s not worth it. Nobody needs a political education from any of us. Tread carefully, that’s my unsolicited free advice. Sorry if this is offensive , but I’m telling youbthis out of love. J6 is old news. Swing voters don’t care about and don’t agree with you. Changing your mom’s mind will accomplish nothing. But it mights train your relationship. Why choose a topic that upsets you for conversations with your Mom.
